About
In brief, this website has been constructed from an original concept by Peter Davies and Lyndon Barrie during the period 2004-2006. From an initial premise to provide online developers with a resource and community to which they could swap code, the reality soon hit that we would need a server infrastructure to deal with the requirements of providing this service to the end-users.
Shortly after this realisation we came to understand that the same infrastructure could be used to supply other developers with cheap web hosting. The company Dotcommers UK LLP was successfully setup and ran many clients on a dedicated Plesk server.
Due to many reasons, the business was sidelined at the end of 2006 and both partners went separate ways to pursue new careers. This transition though provides a certain level or irony considering the name Dotcommers represents a term that describes a group who are employed by a dotcom company. It is also true that the term “Dot Com” and the name Dotcommers is synomonous with a period in history (late-1990’s for the young ones) that had every organisation attempt to modernise their business processes through some form of e-commerce or Internet stratergy. The dot-com theory relied on growing businesses as fast as possible, even if it meant a loss at the end of the year. This inevitably lead to many of the businesses failing due to a rapid increase in stock prices, and a change to the standard business model to one of increasing the market share at the expense of the bottom-line.
So, here we are now... almost 10 years on, working with the latest buzz words such as Web 2.0 and AJAX. Every day we learn new techniques and processes from software development through to search engine optimisation, and hopefully this website will provide developers and system administrators with answers to questions that may not easily be found else where.
NB: If you are enquiring about past dealings with Dotcommers UK LLP, please use the online contact form or e-mail either Peter Davies or Lyndon Barrie directly. This present website has no affiliation (except its name) to the once active UK based Limited Liability Partnership.
